17 Nov 2023, Silchar:- Tension gripped Chandinagar, a village near the India-Bangladesh border in Katigorah, Cachar district, as news emerged of an attempted molestation of a minor while she was returning home from school. The incident, involving an auto rickshaw and two youths of different religious backgrounds, sparked immediate concern among locals, prompting swift action by law enforcement.
The unsettling event unfolded on Thursday afternoon when a 12-year-old girl, after a routine day at school, encountered trouble on her way back home. Allegedly, two young men, operating an auto rickshaw, accosted her. Reports suggest they attempted to molest her, causing distress and panic in the vicinity.
Throughout the day, the matter circulated, and in the evening, Katigorah police station received information about the incident. Responding promptly, police officers swiftly reached the scene, apprehending the two accused youths along with the auto rickshaw driver. The minor victim was promptly rescued and provided with immediate medical attention at the Model Hospital in Katigorah.
According to the father’s account, his daughter, while returning home around noon, encountered an auto rickshaw driven by Shamim Ahmad. When questioned about his destination, the driver purportedly mentioned Subodhnagar, leading the girl to board the auto with the intention of reaching home. However, instead of heading towards her residence, the driver diverted the route towards Dauderkhal, raising suspicions and causing distress to the young girl.
As the situation escalated, with the girl raising alarm by screaming for help, nearby residents rushed to her aid, thwarting the driver’s attempts. The swift intervention of locals led to the arrest of the auto rickshaw driver, identified as Shamim Uddin, and the prime accused, Saheed Ahmed, by the police.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the area, drawing attention to the safety of minors and the urgency of ensuring their protection during their daily routines.
Authorities are actively investigating the matter, ensuring the perpetrators face the full extent of the law, and reiterating the importance of community vigilance and support in safeguarding vulnerable members, particularly children, from such distressing incidents.
