Barakoutlet May 6: Conrad K. Sangma, the chief minister of Meghalaya’s NPP, and the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) announced there alliance on Friday.
The PDF has two MLAs in the legislature, which has a current membership of 59, and is a member of the state’s ruling coalition, which is led by the NPP. NPP’s total will increase to 28 following the merger.
The two MLAs who are also the president of PDF, Gavin M. Mylliem, presided over the general council meeting when the decision to unite was made. The other MLA and working president of the PDF, Banteidor Lyngdoh, were present at the meeting. The NPP’s state headquarters will host the official merger on Saturday. Conrad K. Sangma, the national chairman of the NPP, and the president of the PDF will sign the merger agreement, according to Lyngdoh. Mylliem claimed that a number of parties had made merger offers to them, but the bulk of PDF members were leaning towards the NPP due to its ideologies and goals. For the past five years, “we have been cooperating with NPP under the capable leadership of CM Sangma,” he stated.
