Barakoutlet May 5: State Minister for Water Resources,Information and Public Relations etc. Piyush Hazarika visited several places in Cachar district on Thursday. The minister first saw the repair work of the dam in Badrighat area of Barak river and later visited Betukandi area. Meanwhile a sluice gate is being constructed in the area and the embankment is being rebuilt by raising about 700 meters.

During the visit, the Minister inspected 700 meters of sluice gate and dam works. The Minister directed the Deputy Commissioner to work on expeditiously solving the land acquisition problem that has arisen for the construction of the dam in this area. The Minister also visited Annapurnaghat in Hazarika town and inspected the ongoing anti-erosion works in the area.

Later,the Minister went to Manikpur in Barakhla Constituency from Hazarika Silchar visited the flood affected areas of Barak river. It may be noted that although a project to rebuild the Dam at Manikpur is already underway,some problems in land acquisition have hampered the progress of the work. The Minister directed the Deputy Commissioner to work actively to resolve the land issues.

The minister also directed the water resource Department to undertake some urgent work to make the area flood free in the coming monsoon season. Water Resource ministern Hazarika later visited Mahadevpur on the Indo-Bangladesh border in the district and inspected the sluice gate of Bolishwar river. It may be noted that Minister Hazarika visited the area last year and found that six sluice gates constructed under some departments are not operational. The minister was informed through departmental gardeners to repair the sluices gates.

The minister was informed through the departmental gardeners that the department has opened all the gates of Indo-Bangladesh border in that area. He directed the Executive vastuker to personally visit all these sluice gates once a week for the next four months and submit weekly report to the minister to keep them operational during monsoon. Minister Hazarika was accompanied by MP Dr Rajdeep Roy, MLA Dipayan Chakroborty, District Magistrate Rohan Kumar Jha, officials and enjineers of the water resources departments.
